ROCK HILL, S.C. – On Monday morning the South Atlantic Conference selected Joao Pedro Oliveira as the men's tennis player of the week.
"Well-deserved award," Carson-Newman tennis coach Jean Love said. "JP was 6-0 last week in both singles and doubles. You can't do any better than that. He really has been playing well and is one of our most consistent performers."
The senior from Porto Alegre, Brazil had an exceptional week of tennis on the courts going a perfect 4-0 at the top singles position. Three of the four victories came against conference opponents.
Oliveira is 10-6 overall on the season at No. 1 singles while compiling a 6-3 conference record. The native of Brazil is also on the Eagles No. 2 doubles team with freshman Gabriel Dabdab (Brazil). The duo are 10-5 on the year with a 7-1 mark in conference play and are currently riding a three match winning streak.
Oliveira and the rest of the Eagles will be in action on Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. against Reinhardt.
