Eagles looking to keep win streak alive

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman men's tennis team will try to break a five-match losing streak to Lincoln Memorial on Monday afternoon.

 

Carson-Newman (3-4, 2-1) is coming off a victory against Coker on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles are currently on a two-match winning streak in South Atlantic Conference play. Lincoln Memorial (8-2, 3-1) is currently on a four-match winning streak with their last victory coming against Union.

 

The Eagles are led by Joao Pedro Oliveira (Brazil) at the No.1 singles position. The senior has compiled a 5-4 record on the season and is currently on a two match win streak. Fellow countrymen Gabriel Dabdab (Brazil) has found success during his freshman campaign, acquiring a 6-3 record. The duo are also doubles partners and are currently on a three-match win streak in route to a 5-4 overall record.

 

Kevin Mendes (Chattanooga, Tenn.) has become the closer for the men's tennis team at the No.6 singles position. Mendes is 4-1 on the season and is currently riding a two-match win streak. Stefano Daza (Venezuela) has played in a variety of spots for the Eagles, but has acquired a 4-5 record on the year.   

 

The tandem of Daza and Rodolfo Schwarz (Brazil) are still trying to crack the scoreboard at No.1 doubles. The duo has begun the season 0-6 and will look to end that streak on Monday afternoon. The most consistent duo for the Eagles at No.3 doubles is Marc Bantel (German) and Jesus Bacete-Sanz (Spain) who have compiled a 3-2 record on the season.

 

Lincoln Memorial already has four players that have reached the double-digit win total on the season. Pepe Batalla has won ten straight games and has an overall record of 13-1 on the season. David Segarra has also won his last ten matches, while compiling an overall record of 11-1.

 

Both Xavier Marti and Joshua Peress have moved up and down the singles lineup from the No.1 position to the No. 3 position. Marti and Peress have identical records of 10-3 on the year. Moritz Hoerner has won two straight to move his overall record to 6-4 on the season.

 

In doubles play the Railsplitters are looking to solid at both the No.1 and No.2 doubles positions. The tandem of Marti and Peress have won four straight and have a 7-5 overall record on the season. The duo of Batalla and Segarra have acquired an 8-4 record while predominantly playing at the No. 2 doubles position.

 

The Railsplitters round out doubles play with Jake Tuchmann and Carlos Zunino who have a 4-2 record at the No.3 doubles position.
