TSWA Gives Julianne Herrity Second Player of the Week Award

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman senior forward Julianne Herrity (Donegal, Ireland) earned her second Tennessee Sports Writers Association Player of the Week Award this season after she scored four goals during the week, helping the Eagles pick up a pair of wins.

"The players around me have stepped up, even from last year," Herrity said. "Lauren Wade (Coleraine, Northern Ireland) has 11 goals and a number of assists. Holly [Talbut-Smith] (Crawley, England) and Varin [Ness] (Sogndal, Norway) and Chelsea [Jordan] (Knoxville, Tenn.) have contributed as well, so it's been a team effort and we're pushing on offensively."

This is the fourth time in four weeks that a C-N player earned the honor. Herrity captured the first award of the year on September 7th after opening the season with three goals and an assist in C-N's first two games. Wade (Coleraine, Northern Ireland) won the last two.

Herrity scored twice in both Eagles' victories over the last seven days. In her team's 8-0 win over Mars Hill, the senior scored on a header from Jordan and on a penalty kick. She broke a scoreless tie in the second half against Queens (N.C.) on Saturday and tacked on a second score for insurance in a 3-0 triumph.

The 13 goals Herrity has scored in 2016 are the most in the SAC and that total is also just three behind the 16 she scored all of last season. Her 28 points also tie her with Wade for the most in the SAC. The senior forward has five multi-goal games to her credit through eight matches, including a hat trick against Francis Marion on September 10th.

On Wednesday, Herrity and her teammates will be on the road at Lenoir-Rhyne as they look to extend their win streak to six games and stay unbeaten in the SAC. The game has a scheduled start time of 7pm.
