Herrity selected as CoSIDA second-team Academic All-American

AUSTIN, Texas – Carson-Newman senior forward Julianne Herrity (Donegal, Ireland) has been selected to the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-American Division II women's soccer second-team, the first member of the squad to earn such an honor in program history.

Herrity is at Carson-Newman pursuing a Masters of Business Administration and has earned a cumulative 3.56 GPA during her time at Mossy Creek.

In order to be chosen as an Academic All-American, a student-athlete is required to have a cumulative GPA no lower than 3.30 and be at least a sophomore in college.

The senior recently completed a second straight outstanding year as an Eagle putting up 18 goals and 43 points, both the SAC's second-most, and seven assists. Her goals are the 10th-most in Division II and her points total puts her in the 12th spot. The senior found the back of the net more than once in a game six times, including a hat trick against Francis Marion on Sept. 10th. She also tallied one of the two C-N goals against Wingate on Sept. 6th in the SAC title game, which the Eagles won 2-1 to capture their second-consecutive conference championship.

Herrity finished off a career that saw her tally 34 goals, a total that places her fifth in program history. She also racked up 79 career points, which ties her with Liz Jallo for the fourth most in Carson-Newman history.

This is the third postseason honor the Ireland native has earned in 2016. She's also garnered spots on the All-South Atlantic Conference first-team, as well as the D2CCA Southeast Region first-team. She was selected to both of those teams in 2015 as well.

Herrity is one of three players from the SAC to selected as a CoSIDA Academic All-American, with the other two being Tusuclum's Carlie Thornber and Wingate's Kaitlyn Brunworth.
