Wade and Burns join Northern Ireland national team for friendlies against Portugal

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman women's soccer players Lauren Wade (Coleraine, Northern Ireland) and Jacqueline Burns (Cookstown, Northern Ireland) have been selected to play on the Northern Ireland women's national team.

They will be representing their country in a pair of friendlies against Portugal.

This will not be first time either player has represented their country on the pitch. Burns played in four matches for the national team over the last year, including a contest against Georgia in June in which she made three saves and registered a clean sheet in a 4-0 victory. Her last appearance for the squad came on August 3rd, when she totaled five saves against the Czech Republic in a 1-1 tie.

Also participating in that match was Wade, who has appeared in three games for Northern Ireland. The reigning South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year has 88 minutes of playing time to her credit with the national team.

The first match against Portugal is scheduled for Jan. 17th and the second friendly will take place on the 19th. Both Burns and Wade are expected to dress for each contest.
