Eagles move up one spot to seventh in Southeast Region rankings

INDIANAPOLIS – The Carson-Newman women's soccer team moved up one spot to seventh in the NCAA's third set of Southeast Region rankings.

The Eagles climbed from eighth to seventh following a week that saw them end the regular season with a pair of home victories over South Atlantic Conference opponents Lincoln Memorial and Catawba. Those wins helped them claim a share of the SAC regular season title.

Columbus State remains ranked No. 1, a spot they've held for all three weeks since the regional polls started being released. North Georgia jumped two places to claim the second spot, while Limestone fell to third. The only other squad from the SAC that has earned a place in the rankings is Lenoir-Rhyne, who currently sits at sixth for the second straight week.

The regional rankings are used by the NCAA to select teams for the national tournament following the conference tournaments. The top six teams in each regional poll are selected for the postseason, though an automatic bid is awarded to the SAC tournament champion.

Carson-Newman is in the midst of their conference tournament and their win over Catawba on Tuesday night has propelled them to the semifinals on Friday in Rock Hill, S.C. The Eagles will face the Anderson (S.C.) Trojans at 1:30 p.m. as they attempt to advance to the conference final.
