Eagles look to beat the rain this weekend in Athens

Jean Love Interview

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.—The Carson-Newman women's tennis team will try to find some match time in a foul weather written fall schedule, as they travel down to Tennessee Wesleyan College for a duo of matches between Reinhardt University and the Bulldog's of Wesleyan.

"We need to see how our players execute on what we have put into practice against someone else," coach Jean Love said. "When you play against outside folks, it is a completely different competitive situation and that's what we need right now."

The Eagles will begin play as host to Reinhardt at 9 a.m. and finish off the day with a 1 p.m. start time with Tennessee Wesleyan.

Carson-Newman will be competing against two top powers from the NAIA's Appalachian Athletic Conference on Saturday when play begins.

A season ago, Reinhardt University concluded its season with a 9-4 mark and return an even slate of upperclassman and lowerclassman. The team will suit two freshman, one sophomore, two juniors and one senior when they take on the Eagles for the early match.

Tennessee Wesleyan College will be looking to rebound from a 7-11 tally set a year ago by welcoming four true freshman into the mix for the fall slate. The Bulldog's will play four freshman, four sophomores, two juniors and no seniors against a highly experienced Carson-Newman club.

"We have done all that we can do in practice right now," Love said. "We need to be put into some challenging situations. It's easy in practice to kind of get in a groove, but that's all we have had to work with so far this fall."
