JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Former Carson-Newman Eagle volleyball player Emily Schultz has been named Director of Alumni Relations and Volunteer Assistant Coach by Carson-Newman head coach Dan Ahiers.

The Atlanta, Ga. native has been busy with her responsibilities thus far as she has helped to organize an alumni event on August 30 following a scrimmage against Lee University. On top of an alumni match, the players will host a barbeque.

"As Director of Alumni Relations," Schultz explained of her duties. "I will be the liaison between the program and the alumni. It's good to see that former players want to come back and see their former teammates as well as play our girls right now."

After transferring from the College of Charleston for her junior season, Schultz became one of the top options at the net. She finished just shy of 400 kills for her career including 213 in 2013 to put herself with the second-best tally on the squad. Schultz will now turnaround and coach several of her former teammates.

"I think it's going to be tough sometimes," the former right side hitter said of coaching her former teammates. "I'm not sure if they will take me seriously, but it's a process. I'm here to learn."

Schultz has a list of experience on the coaching side of the bench. She was a camp coach during each of her four seasons coaching middle school and high school talent at the College of Charleston and Carson-Newman.

The lone senior from 2013 spent parts of seven years as a volunteer coach at her high school, St. Pius X, in Atlanta. Most recently, Schultz was the head coach of a travelling club team for 16-year-olds where she planned and executed practices in leading a new program based out of Jefferson City, Tenn.

Schultz is finishing her degree in Business Administration at Carson-Newman this fall and has really enjoyed seeing the new version of the Eagles go through practice.

"I'm really impressed with their athleticism," Schultz said of her impressions on this year's club. "I told them earlier today 'you can't really coach athleticism and the drive to want to win and work harder'. They all look like they are so excited to be back."
