Carson-Newman Volleyball Match Notes

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman (3-1) volleyball team will play its first home match of the season when the Converse Valkyries (4-0) come to Holt Fieldhouse Wednesday evening for a 7:00 p.m. first serve.

The Eagles offensive attack was as good as it has been in several years in California. Carson-Newman notched a pair of matches with at least a .300 attack percentage. In fact, the unit had only two sets out of 14 in which they failed to hit at least .300. In 2013, the Eagles had just five matches where the stat line showed a .300 or greater attack percentage.

Senior outside hitter Rachel Harper has picked up right where she left off last season when she was on the second team All-South Atlantic Conference team. This week, the Chattanooga, Tenn. native has won the SAC player of the week, Bojangles female athlete of the week and Women Play Ball Division II athlete of the week. Her numbers pop as she leads the conference by 14 kills with 59 this season.

Transfer Jenna Wilson made her Eagle debut known with a weekend that lit up the stat sheet. The Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. native hit .471 with 39 kills and an average of 1.29 blocks per set.

Wednesday night's matchup marks the 14th all-time meeting between Carson-Newman and Converse with the Eagles holding a 13-0 lead in the series.

In 2013, it took Carson-Newman four sets, 25-18, 25-16, 22-25 and 25-14, before the Eagles took the match. Harper led the way in the 2013 season opener with 17 kills, 12 digs and five service aces. Overall the Eagles hit .289 to the Valkyries .113 attack percentage.

Converse is off to a 4-0 start to begin this season despite sporting an attack percentage of just .154. Katie Butler sets the pace with 38 kills with Scottie Kay Auton's 31 right behind her. In last year's matchup the Eagles did not have an answer for Auton who notched 11 kills on a .667 attack percentage with three block assists.

Wednesday's match can be viewed on the Eagle Sports Network beginning at 6:55 by going to cneagles.com/live where you can also find live stats for the match.
