Wilson brings in second Astroturf SAC Player of the Week

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – For the second time this season, senior middle blocker Jenna Wilson (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) takes home the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week honor as announced by the league Tuesday morning.

Carson-Newman won six of the 10 weekly honors this season with senior outside hitter Rachel Harper (Chattanooga, Tenn.) taking home the accolade three times, Wilson did so twice and junior middle blocker Kiayna O'Neal (Katy, Texas) capturing the final honor.

"I think it says we are a great team," Wilson said. "I just feel like we have been working so hard and all of that hard work is paying off."

Wilson has racked up double-digit kills in eight straight matches dating back to mid-October. The senior began her week with 14 kills and a .433 attack percentage against Lincoln Memorial Tuesday night. She followed with a big weekend setting a new career-high with 21 kills on a .436 attack percentage and 2.5 blocks Friday night against Anderson (S.C.). Wilson capped the week with 11 kills while matching career-highs with three solo blocks and five total blocks against Newberry.

The middle blocker ends the regular season as the blocking champion in the SAC with 1.19 blocks per set, 126 total blocks, 106 block assists and 20 solo blocks. Wilson finishes the year fifth in the league with 3.9 points per set and 3.18 kills per set.

Her .393 attack percentage ranks 11th in the country while her 1.19 blocks per set are good for 17th in Division II and her 126 total blocks are 11th.

Carson-Newman is the No. 2 seed in the upcoming conference tournament beginning Friday night in Hickory, N.C. when the Eagles take on Mars Hill at 5 p.m.
