Harper, Kennedy named Bojangles Female and Male Athletes of the Week

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman volleyball's outside hitter Rachel Harper (Corryton, Tenn.) and men's golfer Nick Kennedy (Toronto, Ontario) have been named Bojangles' Female and Male Athletes of the Week.

Rachel Harper recorded a double-double in each of the three matches last week bringing her season total to six. The senior began the week with 13 kills, 16 digs, three service aces and two block assists in a sweep of Lincoln Memorial.

In a three-set victory against Anderson, the Chattanooga, Tenn. native notched 14 kills, 12 digs and matched a career-high with five service aces. With C-N leading 14-12 in the first set at Newberry, Harper tallied her 100th career service ace.

She finished the match by tying a season-high with 17 kills on a week-best .297 attack percentage, 16 digs and four block assists.  She also earned AstroTurf SAC Player of the Week honors for her efforts.

It took men's golfer Nick Kennedy (London, Ontario) four extra holes, but the Carson-Newman junior won the North Georgia Fall Invitational with a seven-under 209.

Kennedy's final-round 69 placed him into a sudden-death playoff with Georgia Southwestern State's Chris Low. Four pars on four consecutive holes propelled Kennedy to the tournament win.

All three of Kennedy's rounds finished at par or better after a first round 68 and second round 72,

Kennedy's win was the first individual win for a men's golfer since Gavin Hay won the Tusculum Invitational in March 2013.
