Harper and Wilson reel in AVCA All-Southeast Region nods

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Senior outside hitter Rachel Harper (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and senior middle blocker Jenna Wilson (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) were named to the AVCA All-Southeast Region Team announced Wednesday afternoon.

The duo were a big part of one of the most successful years in Carson-Newman volleyball history that saw the Eagles win the second-most games ever with 27, lose the fewest matches in history with seven and go as far as any team in program history by winning their first round match with USC Aiken, the first sweep by the program in its NCAA Tournament history.

Wilson's 3.9 points per set were fourth in the SAC while her 3.20 kills per set were fifth-best. Blocking has been her forte as her 134 total blocks led the SAC and rank 13th nationally and her 1.17 blocks per set are good for 23rd in the country. The middle blocker has been highly efficient as her .388 attack percentage ranks 11th among Division II players. It's a mark that shattered the previous high from a Carson-Newman player set by Katie Troyer's .317 in 2008. Wilson has accumulated double-digit kills on 23 occasions while posting 20 or more a team-high four times. She was a first team All-SAC selection and a member of the All-SAC Tournament team. Wilson won the conference's Player of the Week honor twice while earning the Tennessee Sportswriters Association Volleyball Player of the Week on October 21.

Harper led the conference with 4.5 points per set, a number that ranked 24th nationally, and 3.62 kills per set led the league this year while her 51 service aces rank fourth and are the 37th-best tally nationally. Her 3.66 kills per set is the fifth-highest total for a single season in program history. The outside hitter has crossed the 1,000 kills and 1,000 dig plateaus this season while she has brought her career service ace total to 136, fourth-most in program history. Harper has racked up 14 double-doubles this season including 18 kills and a career-high 29 digs in a match against Anderson (S.C.) in the SAC semifinals. The outside hitter was a first team All-SAC selection, a member of the All-Southeast Region Tournament team, a three-time SAC Player of the Week honoree and Women Play Ball Division II Athlete of the Week on September 9.

Both players earned Daktronics All-Southeast Region team nods last week with Wilson being on the first team and Harper named on the second team.
