VIDEO: Mitchell Honcoop Interview
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Carson-Newman men's soccer midfielder Mitchell Honcoop was named to the All-South Atlantic Conference second team as voted on by the league's coaches and released Wednesday morning by the league office.
The second-team nod is Honcoop's first career honor.
"It's an honor to be named second team all-conference," Honcoop said. "I think especially at the start of the year really good, with four goals in four games. Then I dropped back a little bit with my goal contribution. For me personally, I think I had a pretty decent season. I was able to really express myself as a player."
Honcoop earns all-conference honors after tying for the most goals this season with five, while also adding four assists, the second-most on the team. His 14 points were a team high.
The midfielder scored two goals on four shots in a season-opening tie versus Trevecca Nazarene on September 5th.
He would go on to score a goal each in games three and four of the young season against Montevallo and Catawba, scoring four of his five goals in the first four games of the year.
His final goal of the year came in the home regular season finale, the game-winner in a 2-0 defeat of Wingate on October 26th.
The Dutchman had all four of assists come in different games. His first was against Montevallo, while his other three came in Carson-Newman wins versus (RV) West Alabama, Emory & Henry and Newberry.
Since coming to Mossy Creek, Honcoop has played in all 33 games, with 32 starts. He has seven career goals and five career assists.
