VIDEO: Carson-Newman vs Emory & Henry 2023 Highlights
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (1-3-3, 0-1-1 SAC) returns to conference action when it clashes with Emory & Henry (0-4-1, 0-2 SAC) at Fred Selfe Stadium tomorrow evening at 5:00 p.m.
Carson-Newman starts the month of October with one of its three road conference games of the month. The Eagles are well-rested, having the past ten days off after having their game versus Newberry postponed on Saturday. The break came at a good time. C-N played four games in seven days leading up to this extended stretch off from games.
Carson-Newman will look to bounce back after suffering a 4-2 loss to Coker ten days ago. The loss ended C-N's unbeaten streak of four games at home. The Eagles are 0-2-1 this season away from home and will aim for their first road win since defeating Newberry 1-0 on September 30th, 2023.
Midfielder Mitchell Honcoop (Nieuw-Vennep, Netherlands) is the leader of the offense through seven matches. His four goals scored are third-most in the SAC and 30th most nationally. His ten points are fourth in the league. Joining him with multiple goals is Thomas Lachapelle (Brussels, Belgium). The graduate student joined Honcoop as the only other Eagle with multiple goals in a game this season, scoring twice against Coker this past Saturday. It's the first time since 2020 that Carson-Newman has at least two players score multiple times in a game in the same season.
The Eagles have won both meetings against the Wasps, over the past two years. Carson-Newman has scored three goals in both wins in the series. E&H's only two goals came in the two teams' first ever meeting in 2022. Last season, C-N's Ben Dukes (Southampton, England) scored the game's first goal in the 34th minute. It took nearly 50 more minutes before C-N would score its insurance goals to runaway with a 3-0 win. Stephen Lyons' squad outshot the Wasps 32-5 and had 14 shots on goal.
Emory & Henry is still searching for its first win of the season and first win since moving to NCAA DII. Picked last in the South Atlantic Conference's Preseason Coaches poll, the Wasps are 0-4-1 and have suffered two league losses in the first month of the season. The tie on Sept 15 to Virginia State, ended a 34-game losing streak.
In its two SAC losses, E&H has allowed 13 goals while just scoring once. Last time out, Lenoir-Rhyne defeated the Wasps 7-0, with the first league loss being to Anderson 6-1 on Sept 15. The Wasps showed to be competitive in their three non-conference games. They suffered a pair of two-goal losses to start the season to Shaw and Barton, before playing to a scoreless tie with Virginia State.
The SAC's worst defense has allowed 18 goals in five games, only Newberry has a worse goal against average, allowing 4 per game, to E&H's 3.6. Three different players have spent time in the net. Emilio Hernandez-Araujo has a team-high 17 saves but has conceded 14 goals.
A.J Dale and Ethan Hayes are the club's two goal scorers this season. They have nine of the team's 23 shots through five games. E&H is tied with Tusculum for least number of goals scored through the first month of the season.
First touch from Fred Selfe Stadium is set for 5:00 p.m. A live stream of the game is available with a subscription to FloSports at cneagles.com/flomsoc.
