JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (1-3-3, 0-1-1 SAC) concludes its longest homestand of the season and the month of September with a Senior day matchup versus Newberry (0-3-1, 0-1-1) tomorrow evening at 5:00 p.m.

Carson-Newman men's soccer will honor four seniors on Saturday. The festivities will be during halftime of the women's game, approximately 8:15 p.m. The Eagles will honor Levi Burdette (Seymour, Tenn.), Paul Csmarich (Vienna, Austria), Federico Simonetti (Crema, Italy) and Daniel Vennesland (Tanager, Norway).

So far this homestand, C-N has played stiff competition with all three opponents ranked or receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches poll. Stephen Lyons' team has posted a 1-1-1 record in the three matches.

Through two conference games, C-N has a 0-1-1 record with one point. Under Lyons, Carson-Newman has never gone winless in its first three conference games of a season. The 2002 season is the last time the Eagles failed to win any of its first three SAC contests.

Midfielder Mitchell Honcoop is the leader of the offense through seven matches. His four goals scored are third-most in the SAC and 30th most nationally. His ten points are fourth in the league. Joining him with multiple goals is Thomas Lachapelle. The graduate student joined Honcoop as the only other Eagle with multiple goals in a game this season, scoring twice against Coker this past Saturday. It's the first time since 2020 that Carson-Newman has at least two different players score multiple times in a game during the season.

The Eagles have had their way against the Wolves. In 30 all-time meetings, Carson-Newman is unbeaten with 28 wins and just two ties. One of those ties came in 2018, but C-N has rattled off four straight wins since the draw. In the last six meetings at Mossy Creek, Carson-Newman has outscored Newberry 22-4, winning all six matches. C-N's defense has been superb in the past two meetings, posting two clean sheets and allowing just 20 shots.

Newberry was selected to finish 11th in the South Atlantic Conference's Preseason Coaches' Poll. Two players were selected as all-conference preseason selections, Seraphin Guetan was a second team pick while Ethan Orozco made the third team

The Wolves are winless to start the season, sporting a 0-3-1 record and a 0-1-1 record in SAC games. The three losses came in a row to begin the year, suffering road losses to Embry-Riddle and Flager by 4-1 and 5-1 marks. Two weeks ago, it opened conference play with a 7-2 loss to Mars Hill at home. Most recently, Newberry played to a scoreless draw with Tusculum to secure its first point in conference play.

Dating back to 2022, Newberry has failed to win its last 16 road contests. The program's last true road win came against Emory & Henry on September 18th, 2022. Over the past four seasons, it has managed just four road wins, two of which came in 2022.

Henok Awoke headlines the 10th best offense in the SAC. He has a team-high two goals and seven shots. The team has just four goals, one in each game on average. It ranks second to last in shots (8.5) and shots on goal per game (3).

The defense has not helped the offense. Through four games, Newberry has allowed 16 goals. The high volume of shots is a main reason for the goals. The Wolves have been outshot in every game and have been outshot 79-34 in four games. Goalkeeper Jacob Cotton is averaging more than five saves per game, the second-highest mark in the SAC and 18th highest nationally.

The match is set for a 7:30 p.m. start. A live stream of the game is available with a subscription to FloSports.
