KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – A morning match between Carson-Newman men's tennis and King saw the Eagles earn the opening doubles point and five of six singles matches for a 6-1 victory Sunday at the Knoxville Racquet Club.

Moving to 4-0 on the season, C-N has already surpassed last year's win total, respectively. It is the first four-match winning streak for the Eagles since 2012 when the team collected four victories from March 10-17.

With freshman Hugo Castets (Gradignan, France) out with an injury, sophomore Rintaro Oka (Narita, Japan) stepped into the No. 1 singles role and delivered a 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 victory over the Tornado's Alex Sodre.

It's a role head coach Jim Frederick knew was in safe hands.

"Rin played the way he's capable of today," Frederick said.

Opening the match with the doubles point, the pairings of Oka and freshman Marc Janse (Zeewolde, Netherlands); Ids Waterbolk (Bennekom, Netherlands) and Julian Froehlich (Kobenz, Austria); and Gabriel Dabdab (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and Joshua Ott (Knoxville, Tenn.) earned three wins to fire first in the match.

Singles began with Nos. 2, 4 and 6 on the court, looking to sweep the weekend's two matches in quick fashion. The trio of Janse (6-2, 6-2), Froehlich (6-3, 6-2) and Ott (6-2, 6-2) were able to do just that, stunting a Tornado team that won three sets in the contest, respectively.

Finishing out the match with Nos. 1, 3 and 5 singles, Waterbolk (6-2 6-2) and Oka were able to find the fifth and sixth points of the match. Junior Daniel Cox (Chattanooga, Tenn.) battled at No. 3 singles for the first time this season, falling 6-3, 6-1 to give the Tornado their lone point Sunday.

King moves to 2-3 with the loss overall.

A five-day break sees C-N get some well-needed rest before traveling to Division I foe Austin Peay on Friday. The Eagles' first dual match road contest is set for 11 a.m. in Clarksville, Tenn.
