C-N Splits Matches On Day Two at Coastal Carolina

CONWAY S.C. – Carson-Newman wraps up trip to South Carolina splitting the day 1-1 with a win over Erskine.

After a difficult first day for the Eagles at the Coastal Carolina Invitational where C-N dropped both matches to ULM and Coastal Carolina, the team looked to bounce back on the second day of competition. 

Carson-Newman kicked off day two with an in-conference matchup against the Erskine Fly Fleet beginning at 12:00 p.m. C-N secured its first road victory of the season with a 4-1 win over the Flying Fleet. 

 

Match 1: C-N 4, Erskine 1

  2. Emerson Ahsmuhs/Trinity Hafey (C-N) def. M.J. Cackett/Lillian Pragle (Erskine) 21-7, 19-21, 15-9

  3. Ava Fountain/Kylee Oldenburger (C-N) def. Abby Johnson/Kianna Pierson (Erskine) 21-10, 21-17

  4. Morgan Foy/Camryn Ehlers (C-N) def. Logan Webster/Kat Diaz (Erskine) 21-5, 21-10

  5. Addie Smith/Callie Wilson (C-N) def. Elly Davis/Allysa Owens (Erskine) 21-19, 11-21, 15-8

 

The final match of the road trip comes against the College of Charleston (CoC) Cougars. Carson-Newman last took on the Cougars in 2019 where the C-N was swept in the match. C-N fell short of reaching their first win over CoC with the Eagles losing the match 1-4.

  3. Kora Hansen/Alexa Psotka (CoC) def. Trinity Hafey/Kylee Oldenburger (C-N) 16-21, 21-19, 15-9

  4. Morgan Foy/Camryn Ehlers (C-N) def. Tynley Smeltzer/Allie Holland (CoC) 21-12, 21-18

  5. Cassie Thayse/Sophie Hays (CoC) def. Callie Wilson/Addie Smith (C-N) 21-16, 21-16

 

Carson-Newman ended the trip to Conway, S.C. with a 3-1 overall match record. 

"We got better this weekend and we will continue to do so," said head coach Cat Collins. "We had strong moments and will build off of the positives."

The Eagles get back on the road next weekend for a trip to the Liberty Mountain Intramural Courts in Lynchburg, Va. Friday, Feb. 28 sees C-N matchup against Richard Bland at 12:00 p.m. and Lancaster Bible College at 2:00 p.m. The second day has the Eagles take on Lynchburg for the second time this season at 8:00 a.m. and host school Liberty starting at 12:00 p.m.
