JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman women's tennis team fell in its spring opener against No. 11 North Georgia on Wednesday afternoon, 6-1.

Despite a competitive showing in its season opener, C-N couldn't get it done against a talented North Georgia squad.

SINGLES RESULTS:

No. 1: No. 5 Angelina Linnikova (UNG) def. Anita Chornei (C-N), 6-1/6-3

No. 2: No. 23 Johanna Lippert (UNG) def. Summer Reeves (C-N), 6-3/6-1

No. 6: Valentina Ascarrunz (UNG) def. Sindija Manovska (C-N), 7-5/6-0

Boasting two nationally ranked singles players in Linnikova and Manovska, the Nighthawks provided a formidable challenge on Wednesday. Despite a strong fight, UNG earned five of six singles points, with the lone win for the Eagles coming from freshman Suryanshi, earning a two-set win in her spring debut.

DOUBLES RESULTS:
No. 1: No. 18 J. Lippert/V. Wojcikova (UNG) def. S. Reeves/N. Forrest (C-N), 6-1

No. 2: No. 22 A. Linnikova/S. Teterina (UNG) def. J. Speiser/L. McBride (C-N), 6-3

No. 3: V. Ascarrunz/C. Reis (UNG) def. A. Chornei/Suryanshi (C-N), 6-4

The Nighthawks snagged all three doubles matches with a pair of nationally ranked duos performing at a high level to start the spring. C-N came within a pair of games, with Suryanshi and Anita Chornei putting together a competitive performance in the No. 3 doubles slot, but it wasn't enough.

Despite the result, C-N will look to build on the match against the nationally ranked-Nighthawks and prepare for the Lee Flames, who trek to Mossy Creek for a matchup with the Eagles on Saturday at 8 am.
