Parker Adds Graduate Assistant Mariya Shumeika to Coaching Staff

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – First-year head coach Jon Parker has announced the addition of Mariya Shumeika to the tennis staff as a graduate assistant.

Shumeika enjoyed a five-year playing career, four years at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, before spending her graduate year with East Tennessee State in Johnson City, Tennessee.

In her time at Corpus Christi, Shumeinka earned All-Southland Second Team honors in her freshman season in 2018-19 with a 15-4 mark in singles, and an 8-2 Southland record. In her sophomore season, she moved up to No. 1 singles and posted a 9-3 record and a 10-2 record in doubles. In 2020-21, she was voted All-Southland Second Team in doubles with a 19-6 record and a 15-7 mark in singles. In her final season with Corpus Christi, she clinched the match point in the SLC Championship, which sent the Islanders to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season, earning her SLC Tournament MVP.

In her final year of eligibility, Shumeika posted a 10-13 singles record at No. 2 singles and a 16-8 record at No. 1 doubles for the Buccaneers, earning First Team All-SoCon honors. She helped ETSU to the Buccaneers' first SoCon Championship since 2016.

With a playing career full of experience and accolades, Shumeika brings her experience to Mossy Creek to bolster the Eagles' coaching staff under first-year head coach Jon Parker.
