Eagles Earn Impressive Wins at ITA Championships

 

SUMTER, S.C. – The Carson-Newman women's tennis team competed in the ITA Championships over the weekend, with a few Eagles making a run in the main brackets.

SINGLES

On the first day at the Palmetto Tennis Center, 32-seed Anita Chornei earned a bye, while Leah McBride and Natasha Forrest won their first-round matches. Sindija Manovska suffered an injury in the second set of her match, allowing Newberry's Renee Dorval to move on. Julia Speiser and Summer Reeves dropped close matches in the first round.

In the round of 64, Leah McBride upset Wingate's 32-seeded Fernanda Castillo, while 32-seed Anita Chornei also advanced with a win over Anderson's Gigi Sompayrac. Natasha Forrest fell in three sets to Georgia College's 8-seeded Jada Young.

In the third round, Leah McBride continued her impressive run for the Eagles with another upset, this time taking down Georgia College's 16-seed Ashley Bentz. Anita Chornei fell in two sets to North Georgia's 7-seed Angelina Linnikova.

Leah McBride's main bracket run ended in the round of 16, falling to Flagler's 1-seed Nadia Meier.

DOUBLES

The Eagles continued an impressive showing at the ITA Championships in doubles play, with the 6-seeded pairing of Summer Reeves and Natasha Forrest earning a win in their round of 32 matchup after a first-round bye.

In the round of 16, Forrest and Reeves fell to Columbus State's Mariana Ramirez and Nikoline Gullacksen.

The Eagles look to continue a solid performance in the consolation bracket at the Palmetto Tennis Center to round out the ITA Championships.
