JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - For the first time in 44 years, a new name adorns the school record book for men's indoor long jump.

Joseph Oreva broke the school record for indoor long jump with his fifth jump of the afternoon at the Buccaneer Invitational with a distance of 7.75 meters. Unlike Larry Cooke's record of 7.60 meters that stood since 1977, Oreva needed about eight minutes to break the record again with a personal best jump of 7.84 meters. Oreva's jump moves him to number one in division two and 24th in the world.

"Honestly I was feeling sore," says Oreva. "But I had a feeling something positive would happen. My ultimate goal is to have fun and having fun helps me jump farther. The new goal is the 8.22 meter mark and to qualify for the olympic mark for Nigeria."

Two weeks after winning the high jump in Birmingham, Nathalie Schumacher continued her run of dominance, winning the high jump in Johnson City with a jump of 1.58 meters.

"I'm glad that I won but I want to jump higher," says Schumacher. "I've gotten in a routine and I've started having fun."

Morgan Stanton finished 10th in the high jump with a jump of 1.50 meters.

In the weight throw, Ashton Abbott finished 11th with a toss of 11.43 meters, while Darcie Bagent set a new personal best with a throw of 8.76 meters to finish 16th. On the men's side, Draven Green set a personal best with a toss of 13.05 meters, good for 13th overall. Matthew Campbell also set a PR with a toss of 10.94 meters to finish 19th.

Before friday, Camden Fritz had never competed in a single track meet in his life. In the long jump, Fritz advanced to the finals and finished eighth with a personal best of 6.54 meters.

"We have a great staff, athletic training staff and weight room staff and going down to our operations staff," says Director of Track & Field and Cross Country David Needs. "Our coaches try to coach not just the body but the mind and heart. When you coach that way, you're going to get the best out of people."

In the men's high jump, Sam Cleek set a new PR finishing third with a jump of 1.98 meters. Shane Connell and Danilo Cardoso finished tied for fourth after clearing 1.90 meters.

On the track, the day began for the Eagles with the 5000 meter run. Hunter Miller set a new personal best with a time of 17:24.13 to finish ninth while Will Kolb finished 10th at 17:26.32, also a personal best.

The lone participant for Carson-Newman in the 3000 meter run was Madison Dockery who set a new personal best with a time of 11:50.02 and a 12th place finish.

In the 800 meter run, Alexis Brown finished 30th with a time of 2:55.24. On the men's side, Raymond Brugmans finished fourth with a time of 1:58.53, Christian Henry finished 20th with a time of 2:08.68, Trent Lovelace finished 25th with a time of 2:10.29 and Ben White finished 35th with a time of 2:43.63.
