Jureidini-Wyche takes bronze on day one of SAC Outdoor Championships

HICKORY, N.C. - A new personal best toss in the javelin for Trayzel Jureidini-Wyche was good enough to clinch a bronze medal on day one of the SAC Outdoor Championships.

"I am so proud of Tray for his strong showing in the men's javelin," says Director of Track & Field and Cross Country David Needs. "Five of his six throws were a new personal best. We always love seeing when our athletes rise up to the challenge of a championship and tomorrow will be a great opportunity."

Jureidini-Wyche's toss of 51.69 meters is a new personal best by almost two meters. Jureidini-Wyche has finished in the top-10 in the javelin in the past four events and this is the highest he has ever finished at the SAC Outdoor Championships, previously placing fourth in 2018 and ninth in 2019.

Devon Moore punched his ticket to the finals of the 100 meter run, winning his heat with a time of 10.67 seconds. That time is 0.19 seconds faster than the second place runner overall. This is the third time this year Moore has finished first in the 100 meter run. Teammate Sterling Melancon also moved on to the finals of the 100 meter run, placing fourth overall in the prelims with a time of 10.89 seconds and winning his heat. 

Moore won his heat in the 200 meter run prelims with a time of 22.03 seconds and second overall. Melancon also won his heat in the 200 meter prelims with a time of 22.11 seconds.

Isaiah Weasby set a final round qualifying time in the men's 400 meter run. The freshman placed third overall with a time of 50.57 seconds and second in his heat. 

On the women's side, Madison Bunch set a new personal best in the javelin with a toss of 31.72 meters, placing seventh and earning two points for the women's team. Amy Zadroga finished eighth with a toss of 30.26 meters to earn one point.

Timaya Ray and Amanda Lowe both qualified for the finals of the 100 meter run, both running a time of 12.39 seconds. Tia Davis also qualified for the finals of the 100 meter run with a time of 12.62 seconds, sixth overall. 

Ray also qualified for the finals of the 200 meter run with a time of 25.75 seconds. 

Morgan Bailey qualified for the finals of the 400 meter hurdle finals with a new personal best, shattering her old mark by four seconds with a run of 1:10.14. 

In men's hammer throw, Austin Grammann finished 12th with a toss of 42.28 meters. 

The Eagles also set a total of eight new personal bests on day one of the SAC Championships in Hickory.

Kirby Logan III set a new personal best in the prelims of the men's 1500 meter run, with a time of 4:18.51.  

Jordan Hibbert set a new personal best in the 100 meter run with a run of 11.17 seconds, while Austin Greer demolished his personal best in the event with a time of 11.35 seconds, a new personal best by 0.09 seconds.

Christian Henry set a new personal best in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:01.68 while Trent Lovelace obliterated his personal best time by almost five seconds with a time 2:05.50. 

Olivia Fanning demolished her old personal best in the prelims of the womens's 1500 meter run by almost seven seconds with a ninth place finish and a time of 5:34.87. 

Danielle D'Alesio set a new personal best in the 400 meter hurdles with a time 1:16.26 while Maxie Campbell set a new personal best in the 200 meter run with a time of 29.06 seconds. 

The Carson-Newman men's team sits at fifth place with six points while the women's team sits at eighth with three points. Wingate leads the men's side with 63 points while Queens leads the women's side with 52 points. 

The Eagles will wrap up the SAC Outdoor Championships on Sunday, Apr. 25. The first event for Carson-Newman, the women's discus, begins at 11:00 AM. Live stats and a live stream can be found at cneagles.com.
