Moore And Melancon Finish First and Second as Lowe Breaks School Record Again at VMI Winter Classic

RESULTS

LEXINGTON, Va. - One week after breaking her own school record in the 60 meter run, Amanda Lowe did it again to close out the 2021 VMI Winter Classic.

Lowe ran the 60 meter dash in 7.72 seconds to finish third overall. Tia Davis finished seventh with a run of 7.89 seconds. 

Devon Moore and Sterling Melancon finished first and second on the podium to win the men's 60 meter run. Moore won the event with a time of 6.83 seconds, while Melancon finished behind him at 6.90 seconds. 

Moore was not done at the CPFT, winning the 200 meter run with a time of 21.44 seconds. Melancon finished fourth with a time of 22.05 seconds. Joseph Oreva finished 12th with a personal best time of 22.61 seconds.

Davis finished the day strong, finishing fourth in the women's 200 meter run with a time of 25.91 seconds. Lowe finished 17th with a time of 26.64 seconds.

In the women's high jump, Nathalie Schumacher tied a personal best, finishing third with a clearance of 1.65 meters.

"This was a strong weekend for us," says Director of Track & Field and Cross Country David Needs. "We came to VMI with a smaller group seeking improved times and to perfect some things we have been doing in training. We have a lot of races on our legs over the past two weeks and I am proud to see how we handled this challenge." 

The Eagles will head back to the Commenwealth for the Finn Pincus Invitational on Feb. 19-20 at Roanoke College in Salem, Va.
