ALLENDALE, Mich. - Devon Moore finished off the outdoor track & field season with authority, earning two medals on the final day of the 2021 NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Moore earned the bronze medal in the 100 meter final, while taking home silver in the 200 meter final.
"It was a good day for Devon," says Director of Track & Field and Cross Country David Needs. "To run against one of the fastest athletes in Division II history and earn two medals is great. This is just Devon's second year in outdoor and we're excited and proud of how he did. I have to thank (sprints coach) Kieran Showler-Davis and (athletic trainer) Kelly Brock for the work they've done with him to get him ready this year."
The day began for Moore in the 100 meter final. The Baxley, Ga. native qualified for the final after placing third in the preliminary round with a time of 10.37 seconds. Moore took home the bronze and his ninth career All-American honor with a third-place finish with a time of 10.38 seconds. Benjamin Azamati won the race with a time of 10.12 seconds.
Moore finished just 0.01 seconds behind Nigel Green of Southern Connecticut State. The two were tied for the second-fastest time in the 100 meter during the regular season

This is the second-straight bronze medal for Moore at the Outdoor National Championships in the 100 meter run. He placed third at the 2019 event with a time of 10.32 seconds. Moore has never finished lower than third in his career in the 100 meter run.
An hour later, Moore raced in the 200 meter final. Roughly 24 hours earlier, Moore had won his heat and took second-place in the 200 meter prelims with a time of 21.16 seconds. The senior earned the silver medal with a run of 20.79 seconds, just 0.04 seconds away from tying the school record set by Kevin Snead. Azamati took home gold in the 200 meter run as well.

This is the second straight podium finish for Moore in the event as he finished third at the 2019 Outdoor Championships in the 200 meter run. Moore has now finished inside the top-five in 18 straight 200 meter runs, his lowest finish being fifth at the 2021 KMS Invitational in Jan. 2021.
With the finish, Moore is now an astonishing ten-time All-American. Moore broke his track & field tie with Tanner Stepp during the indoor season after earning All-American honors in Birmingham with a pair of fourth place finishes in the 60 meter and 200 meter runs.
The Carson-Newman men's track and field team earned a total of 22 points at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, tying with Central Missouri State for 11th place, the highest finish in school histroy. It is also the highest finish for any SAC team on the men's side. Limestone finished 14th while Queens finished 30th. Lenoir-Rhyne finished 36th. Grand Valley State took home the men's title with 76 total points.
"To come home with three guys as All-Americans in four events is great," says Needs. "This is the most points ever in a championship meet we've ever scored and I am so proud of this group and the entire team this season. I have to thank all of our coaches, especially Sam Gudger for making sure things ran smoothly and Kris Potts-Howard for keeping the energy up for all of our athletes this season. This is a huge step forward as a program and I can't wait to see what we can do next year."
The Eagles cross country team will be the next squad to run for Carson-Newman. The team missed the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
