Moore wraps up indoor season with two fourth place finishes

RESULTS

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Devon Moore ended his indoor track career with two fourth place finishes in the 60 and 200 meter finals at the NCAA National Championships.

"I'm so proud of Devon," says Director of Track & Field and Cross Country David Needs. "It takes a special athlete to run four sprint races in two days. He is an eight- time All-American not by accident, but because he is a dedicated athlete who performs at championships. Coach Showler-Davis and Devon have had a plan this week to get a top performance against in an all-time great field in both races."

Moore started his weekend on Friday, Mar. 12, finishing second overall in the 60 meter prelims. Moore finished fourth overall in the 60 meter final with a run of 6.81 seconds, just 0.05 seconds behind the number one seed Trevor Bassitt of Ashland. Benjamin Azamati, who beat out Moore in his 60 meter prelim on day one, won the national championship by 0.13 seconds with a run of 6.60 seconds.

In the 200 meter, Moore finished second in his heat with a time of 21.39 seconds. Bassitt took home the title with a meet record time of 20.48 seconds.

This is the highest finish for Moore in the Indoor Nationals for either event. The Baxley, Ga. native finished seventh in the 60 meter dash at the 2019 National Championships and did not finish the 200 meter run at the 2018 event.

Moore entered the final day already guaranteed to be named an eight-time All-American, breaking a tie with former national champion Tanner Stepp for most in track & field school history. Moore will have the opportunity to finish his career as a 10 time All-American after the outdoor season, a rare feat for any athlete at any level.

The Carson-Newman men's track and field squad finished the weekend with 15 points, good enough for 16th overall. Ashland's men took home the men's team championship, recording 60 total points.

"To finish in the top 20 this season as a team with all the challenges we faced - says a lot about Von and Joseph but also says a lot about our entire team and how they train," says Needs.

The Eagles will begin their outdoor season in seven days, traveling to Cleveland, Tenn. for the Lee Invitational.
