RESULTS

The Carson-Newman Track & Field team walked away with three event wins at the UIndy Last Chance Meet.

Sterling Melancon, Devon Moore and Joseph Oreva all wrapped up the weekend with event wins in the 200 meter run, the 60 meter run, and the long jump.

Moore's day began with a win in the 60 meter prelims with a time of 6.74 seconds, good enough for fourth fastest in the nation in Division II. Moore would go on to win the 60 meter run finals with a run of 6.77 seconds, 0.04 seconds faster than the second-place runner. Melancon would also participate in the 60 meter run, placing fourth in the prelims with a time of 6.88 seconds and fifth in the finals with a time of 6.91 seconds.

Melancon was not done on Sunday, as the freshman won the 200 meter run with a time of 22.21 seconds, his first career event win at Carson-Newman.

Oreva continued his phenomenal Carson-Newman debut, winning his third straight long jump event with a jump of 7.61 meters, a jump of almost half a meter longer than the second-place finisher. His teammate, Theo Devillard, finished third with a jump of 6.82 meters.

In the men's high jump, Shane Connell tied his personal best and Sam Cleek set a new personal best as both jumpers finshed with a clearance of 2.00 meters, good enough to finish second and third. Danilo Cardoso finished fifth with a clearance of 1.95 meters.

On the women's side, Tia Davis and Amanda Lowe finished tied for third in the preliminary round of the 60 meter run, both finishing with a time of 7.75 seconds, at the time a new personal best for Davis. Davis then reset her new personal best, tying Lowe's record breaking time last week with a third place finish in the finals with a run of 7.72 seconds. Lowe finished right behind her teammate at fourth with a time of 7.73 seconds.

In the women's 200 meter run, Davis finished second with a time of 26.08 seconds while Lowe finished fourth with a time of 28.86 seconds.

Nathalie Schumacher finished tied for third in the women's high jump with a clearance of 1.65 meters.

Moore and Oreva will now prepare for the NCAA National Championships in Birmingham, Ala. on Mar. 11-13. The rest of the Eagles will have to wait and see if their name will be called during the NCAA Division II Selection Announcement on Tuesday, Mar. 2 at 6:00 PM.
