Lads look to continue win streak at Saint Leo

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman (1-0) men's soccer team continues its conquest through Florida tomorrow at Saint Leo (0-0).

C-N is coming off a 4-2 win against Tampa Thursday night. Senior Joao Dowsley (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) put up two points, preseason all-SAC selection Sindre Welo (Trondheim, Norway) contributed a goal and an assist, and freshman Tanner Heath (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) supplied put in his first for the Eagles.

"Welo through both verbal and nonverbal communication on the field," Carson-Newman head soccer coach Richard Moodie said. "He's a kid that knows what's expected of him."

Dowsley led the Eagles in shots having taken three, all of which were on target. Welo released two shots, both on frame.

"These guys can make or break our season," Coach Moodie said. "When they show up, we're flying."

Saint Leo's first regular season match scheduled for yesterday was postponed. In their two exhibition games in August, the Lions defeated Embry-Riddle 3-2 and tied South Florida 1-1.

Last season, Saint Leo dropped Tampa 3-2 on its home field. Javeim Blanchette, Max Geisthovel, and Josh Davis each put one in for the Lions.

Saint Leo defeated Rollins 4-3 on senior night last fall.

C-N toppled Rollins 2-1 in last season's NCAA Elite Eight match. Ross Frame (United Kingdom) and now senior Nick Skoda (Knoxville, Tenn.) each scored an unassisted goal.

The match kicks off tomorrow at 7:30 p.m.
