C-N breaks from conference play for no. 7 YHC

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – After a six-game streak of conference contests, the Carson-Newman (5-4-2) men's soccer team prepares to host undefeated Young Harris (8-0-1), currently ranked seventh in the nation.

The Lads are coming off a 7-3 victory at Newberry last Saturday. James Ward (England), Lucas Siqueira (Brazil), and Marius Staalby (Norway) each put up a point in the first half. In the second half, Robert Wagner (Germany) scored his seventh goal of the season, and Nico Noll (Germany) contributed two points.

Alexander Naric (Germany) supplied the game winning goal in the 58th minute. He now leads the team in game winners with two.

The Mountain Lions sealed their eighth consecutive win Saturday with a 6-3 final at Francis Marion. Khurram Shazad got a hat trick in the match including the game-winner in the 66th minute. Kendall Carballo, Lewis Hilton and Ilija Ilic also provided goals.

Last season, the Mountain Lions toppled C-N 3-2 in Young Harris. Niall McCabe opened the scoring in the 23rd minute; Kristian Speake (United Kingdom) tied it up eight minutes later.

Ilic regained a one goal lead for Young Harris three minutes into the second half. Alex Wyper beat C-N's keeper in a 1v1 for the game winner. In the 82nd minute, Jake Fielder (Talbott, Tenn.) blasted a shot into the upper left corner of the net for the Eagles' second goal.
