Lads look to continue win streak at Brevard

Game Notes

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman (2-3, 1-0 SAC) men's soccer team heads to Brevard (2-4-1, 0-2 SAC) tomorrow for a 4 p.m. kickoff.

"The boys," Carson-Newman head soccer coach Richard Moodie said, "have set themselves up well. I think we are one of the few teams that have not lost in a conference game yet."

The Lads are coming off the program's largest goal margin victory since the Eagles' 15-0 win in 2000. C-N defeated Trevecca 7-0 Wednesday with two goals by Robert Wagner (Germany), two by Alexander Naric (Germany), one by Nick Skoda (Knoxville, Tenn.) and one by Lucas Siqueira (Brazil) before halftime.

Senior Nico Noll (Germany) returned from injury to provide the men's seventh goal 32 minutes into second half.

Freshman Tanner Heath (Murfreesboro, Tenn.), center back Rurik Pereira (Brazil) and Sindre Welo (Norway) each claimed an assist.

"This will be a huge couple of weeks for us," Coach Moodie said. "We're about to go a week and a half with just conference games. This time in two weeks, we're really going to know where we stand."

Brevard lost 5-0 at Winthrop Sept. 21.

"We're looking forward to getting back to conference play," Coach Moodie said. "It's always a hard trip to Brevard."

Last season, the Lads toppled Brevard 7-1 to tie the largest win margin since 2006. Welo put up two goals including the first of the match in the second minute of action. Noll claimed the second and winning goal of the match in the fourth minute.

Ross Frame (United Kingdom) gave C-N two goals, both assisted by senior Jake Fielder (Talbott, Tenn.), and Kristian Speake (United Kingdom) got the fifth and seventh goals.

Pereira, Jalen Goddard (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and since graduated Matheus Bachi (Brazil) each delivered an assist.

Brevard's Ryan Mcphillips scored the Tornados lone goal in the 25th minute.

"We had a good win this past week," Coach Moodie said. "We enjoyed it. But now we need to prepare for Brevard."

This year's matchup between the Eagles and Tornados will take place tomorrow at 4 p.m. at Brevard.
