Cobras upset Carson-Newman 2-1

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Coker (3-6-4, 3-2-2 SAC), ranked ninth in the conference prior to today's match, stole a 2-1 victory from third-ranked Carson-Newman (5-4-2, 4-2-2 SAC).

Noah Gulley opened the scoring for the Cobras in the 30th minute; he picked up the ball on the Eagles' defensive half and punished them on the counterattack.

Coker held its one-goal lead for 35 minutes. Twenty minutes into the second half, junior defender Rurik Pereira (Brazil) scored a header goal off a corner kick taken by senior midfielder Kristian Speake (United Kingdom).

In the 72nd minute, Ian Fellenz scored Coker's second unassisted goal to make it a 2-1 final.

The Eagles outshot the Cobras 21 to 12 and 10 to six in shots on goal. Speake led the Lads in shots having taken four, two of which were on goal. Sindre Welo (Norway) had three shots and two on target while Pereira placed both of his shots on frame.

Pereira now has three goals on the season from the center back position. In each game Pereira scored, his goal served as C-N's only goal for that respective match. Outside of tonight, Pereira supplied the Eagles' lone goal in their 2-1 overtime loss against no. 19 Wingate and their 3-1 loss at no. 5 Young Harris.

Speake is credited with all of Pereira's assists including the double assist on Pereira's bicycle kick goal at Wingate. Marius Staalby (Norway) provided the single assist on that goal; he is currently tied for second in the SAC with six assists.

Robert Wagner (Germany) leads the team in goals and points with seven and 14 respectively. He is tied for first in the SAC in goals and sits in fourth place for points.

The Eagles head the conference in goals, goals for average and shot percentage with 35, 2.7 and .180 respectively, and are second in assists with 24.
