Men prepare for first trip to Trojan territory

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman (1-3) men's soccer team is off to Trevecca Nazarene (2-3-1) tomorrow for a 2 p.m. kick off.

The Lads sealed their first win of the season, first conference victory and first shutout in their home match against Catawba last Saturday.

Robert Wagner (Germany) put in a penalty kick to take the lead in the 57th minute. Three minutes later, Dominik Gronwald (Germany) supplied a two goal lead off a pass from Marius Staalby (Norway).

Sindre Welo (Norway) finalized the score at 3-0 with a header goal off a free kick taken by Gronwald.

The Trojans tied Cedarville University 2-2 last Thursday; all four goals came in the second half. Cedarville took the lead in the 58th minute. In the 73rd, TNU's Bruno De Moraes tied it up.

De Moraes assisted Ryan Walls six minutes later to take the lead for the Trojans, but Cedarville tied it back up with one minute remaining in regular time. After two overtimes, the tie stood.

Carson-Newman has not previously played Trevecca. Last season, TNU defeated Cumberlands 2-1 in overtime and fell 2-1 to King.

C-N toppled Cumberlands in its preseason scrimmage this season and last, but it fell to King 3-2 in a heartbreaking home opener last Wednesday.

Last season, the Eagles toppled King 3-1 on the road.

This year's matchup between the Trojans and C-N will take place at Trevecca tomorrow at 2 p.m. The game can be followed live at http://www.tnutrojans.com/f/Audio-Video.php.
