Lads put up biggest goal margin since 2000

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman (2-3) men's soccer team returns to Jefferson City with its second shutout and a 7-0 victory at Trevecca (2-4-1), the program's most drastic win since last year's 7-1 win over Brevard.

"The boys are building and getting better," Carson-Newman head soccer coach Richard Moodie said, "with each performance."

Junior fullback Alexander Naric (Germany) started the scoring rampage in the sixth minute with a header goal off a cross from center back Rurik Pereira (Brazil).

Shortly after, Robert Wagner (Germany) won the ball near the top of Trevecca's 18-yard box, got free and ripped a shot to put the Eagles up 2-0.

Just 20 minutes after the first goal, Sindre Welo (Norway) released a free kick that hit the post and rebounded to the foot of Wagner for his second goal of the night. Welo's assist pushes him into first place for C-N with nine points. Wagner follows closely with eight, but leads in goals with four.

Eight minutes later, Marius Staalby (Norway) threaded a pass into the box setting up Naric for his second goal.

With three minutes remaining in the first half, junior midfielder Lucas Siqueira (Brazil) put up an unassisted point for his first of the season. A minute later, Nick Skoda (Knoxville, Tenn.) collected a pass from freshman Tanner Heath (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) to make it 6-0 going into halftime.

Naric and Heath are tied with Joao Dowsley (Brazil) for third in points with four. Pereira and Heath are tied for second with two assists while Welo leads with three. Heath, Naric and Wagner each have one game winner.

Senior Nico Noll (Germany) put in the Eagles' seventh goal in the 77th minute of action, his first of the year. Noll led the team in game winning goals last season with four.

"It was a great performance," Coach Moodie said, "for the squad."

The Lads continue on the road but resume conference play Saturday at Brevard. The match kicks off is at 3 p.m. and can be followed live at http://bctornados.com/page.asp?articleID=93.
