Eagles end Monday third at CBU Super Regional Preview

GERMANTOWN, Tenn. – Through the first two rounds of competition at the Christian Brothers University Super Regional Preview, the Eagles found themselves at third place with a 633 total score on Monday.

Carson-Newman ended the morning round at fourth with a 319 before shooting a 314 in the second round to end the day at +57.

"I saw a lot of mistakes that we need to clean up," head coach Suzanne Strudwick said. "Around the greens, we need to be sharper and with our confidence. We need to believe in ourselves more and commit to being confident in decision making."

Taylor Hayes had the strongest performance with a 78 in the first 18 holes before a 4-over round of 76. Her 154 total was good enough for a tie at 6th on the leaderboard.

Elizabeth England and Jayla Sims tied at 16th with a 160 for 16-over. England, a native of nearby Oakland, Tenn., opened her day with a +7 round of 79 before adding on two stokes in the later round.

"I know Elizabeth will come back with a better round tomorrow," Strudwick mentioned. "I think she is just trying too hard as she is at 'home.'"

Sims started her day shooting 10-over before knocking her second round score down by four stokes with a 78.

Three Eagles tied at 23rd on the day, all shooting 162. Matilda Frovenholt notched rounds of 80 and 82 to add to the team score. Allie Fletcher and Rachel Watts, who was able to join the team as a last minute individual participant, were the lowest scoring of the six total individuals at the event.

Reagan Kinnie rounded out the Eagles leaderboard presence with a 27th place showing of 163, just one stroke behind the C-N trio.

The Eagles landed behind No. 2 Nova Southeastern and No. 4 Missouri-St. Louis, teams who shot 605 and 630, respectively, on Monday.

Paloma Vaccaro of West Florida was atop the leaderboard by the end of day one with a +1 showing of 145. Missouri-St. Louis' Stefaniya Ivanova was second with a 149 total with Nova Southeastern's Sophie Madden just one stroke behind her.

A 9 a.m. shotgun start will begin Tuesday's competition at the Germantown Country Club.
