C-N stays steady with third-place finish at CBU Super Regional Preview

GERMANTOWN, Tenn. – Carson-Newman maintained its spot at third-place through the final round of competition at the Christian Brothers University Super Regional Preview on Tuesday.

The placing gives the Eagles their second straight top-3 finish to close out the fall portion of the schedule.

"We're pleased with the third-place finish and especially beating Tusculum, our conference rivals," head coach Suzanne Strudwick said. "This was a good tournament to finish on and gave us some good insight on areas to on for the spring."

Taylor Hayes continued her lead for the team through the final round, shooting a 78 to finish at +16 overall at a tie for sixth.

Allie Fletcher moved up 12 spots on the leaderboard between the second and third rounds to finish at a tie for 11th with a final round score of 74. Participating as an individual, she concluded with a 236 total at 20-over.

Elizabeth England was not far behind Fletcher. The senior shot 6-over on the second day to give her a 238 total for the event at +22, good enough for a tie at 14th.

Jayla Sims was 9-over on the day with a final round of 81, landing her at a three-way tie for 19th on the leaderboard. She shot a total score of 241.

Reagan Kinnie moved four spots up the leaderboard into 23rd with an 80 through the final 18 holes. Her 8-over showing on the day put her at +27 with a 243 overall.

Matilda Frovenholt dropped just one place on the leaderboard from the first day, ending at a tie for 24th. She shot a second-straight round of 82 to close out with an event score of 244. She was 28-over through the two days.

Rachel Watts rounded out the Eagles presence on the leaderboard at 28th. Competing as an individual, she closed out with a round of 85, four shots over her scores in the first and second rounds for a 247 total.

Paloma Vaccaro of West Florida took the top spot in the competition with a 216 score, sitting even with par after a -1 final round. No. 2 Nova Southeastern's Michelle Ruiz and Sophie Madden took second and third respectively with final totals of 224 and 226.

Nova Southeastern and No. 4 Missouri-St. Louis took first and second respectively. They shot totals of 905 and 941 through the tournament.

"The team knows only being nine shots behind the No. 4 team in the county that we're close to really doing well," Strudwick mentioned. "We're looking forward to winter break and time to work on our short game."

Carson-Newman enjoys some downtime before the start of its spring slate in February's World Golf Hall of Fame Invitational.
