NASHVILLE, Tenn. – No. 16/9 Carson-Newman's (24-7) eight-game winning streak and six-game road winning streak came to a halt as the Eagles suffered a 7-3 loss to Trevecca Nazarene (9-19) on Wednesday afternoon at Jackson Field.

"I hate losing," Carson-Newman head coach Tom Griffin said. "I thought our at bats were poor with the two strike approaches, adjustability, pitch selection in hitter's counts were all not good. We had a chance there late in the game with the tying run at bat. You want to give yourselves a chance and so battling back late was good."

The road winning steak of six games was the longest road winning streak since 2019-20.

Frankie Delgado, (Deltona, Fla.), Ryan Jenkins (Winter Haven, Fla.) and Logan Floyd (Adairsville, Ga.) had multi-hit days at the dish to pace Carson-Newman's nine-hit effort as a team. Jenkins led the way, matching his career-high with three hits and had both of C-N's RBI.

The Eagles posed the first real offensive threat in the top of the first inning. Back-to-back singles put runners on base, but C-N did nothing with it and left two aboard.

TNU took advantage of its first opportunity good opportunity to score. With runners on the corners, Noah Boughton hit into a fielder's choice to make it 1-0.

C-N tied the game next half inning. With Trey Miller (Rocky Point, NY) at third base, Jenkins singled back up the middle to level the game.

The Trojans would use the long ball to open up a six-run lead after five innings. TNU hit two home runs as part of a four-run fourth inning to lead 5-1. Back-to-back batters drove in runs in the fifth inning to put C-N behind by six runs with four innings to play.

Carson-Newman would chip away at the deficit. Three singles loaded the bases in the sixth inning with two outs. TNU pitcher Matthew Hock was called for a balk, allowing a run to score.

Next inning, Jenkins singled for the third time as he scored Ryan Bolton (Knoxville, Tenn.) to bring the deficit down to four runs in the seventh inning.

Brock Culpepper (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) and Braxton Roberts (Sweetwater, Tenn.) combined to throw scoreless seventh and eighth innings to keep the Eagles within striking distance heading to the ninth inning.

C-N showed tremendous fight, loading the bases with one-out. But could not come up with the big hit and stranded the bases loaded in the final inning.

In total, Carson-Newman stranded ten runners on base while TNU left just five aboard.

Ryan Sweeney was the winning pitcher, going five innings while allowing just three hits and one run with a career-high six strikeouts.

Four different Trojans' hitters had multi-hit days with three of them driving in two runs.

Bransen Angel (Lutz, Fla.) suffered his second loss of the season in 3.2 innings on the mound. He scattered five hits and allowed three earned runs.

Carson-Newman turns its attention to a conference series this weekend with UVA Wise. The three-game home weekend series is scheduled to begin on Friday at 2:00 p.m. All games will air with a video stream available on FloSports with a subscription. There will also be a free audio stream available courtesy of the Eagle Sports Network on cneagles.com/live.
