Carson-Newman defeats Cumberlands 1-0 in Exhibition Saturday

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Carson-Newman Eagles defeated the University of the Cumberlands Patriots 1-0 in an exhibition match on Saturday.

Trystan Dafydd scored Carson-Newman's lone goal on a header with just over eight minutes left to play in the second period.

"University of the Cumberlands is a hard team to handle," said Carson-Newman head coach Richard Moodie. "They are ranked in the top 25 nationally in NAIA, so we knew coming into this game they would be a very good outfit.

"They played well, we played with them every minute, the stats show we out-shot them and controlled possession."

Goalkeeper Rumwald Le Guevel posted his second shutout of the exhibition schedule, and his strong play is an encouraging sign for the Eagles heading into the regular season.

"He has great leadership, we've voted him one as of our captains because of his maturity level," said Moodie. "Great student and a fantastic goalkeeper."

The Eagles outshot the Patriots 10-3 in the match, and Carson-Newman midfielder Lucas Siqueira posted three shots and picked up the assist on Dafydd's goal.

Carson-Newman will open its regular season on Saturday August 31 in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. against Tampa. The Eagles home opener is on September 19 against Lincoln Memorial at 7:30 p.m. at McCown Field.
