Welo and Pereira Named to Stanno All-Tournament Team

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – Carson-Newman's Sindre Welo and Rurik Pereira were named to the 2012 Stanno All-Tournament Team at Tusculum College on Sunday evening.

Both Welo and Pereira played key roles in both Carson-Newman wins in the Stanno Tournament, as the Eagles beat Shorter 2-1 Friday and Sunday's 2-0 victory over Lees-McRae.

"We're excited about both of these new additions to the team," said Carson-Newman Director of Soccer and head coach Richard Moodie. "We're excited to see what they can offer us moving forward."

Welo, a junior midfielder from Trondheim, Norway, made three shots during Friday's win over Shorter, and also collected an assist on Joao Pedro Dowsley's game-winning goal in the match. He also made one shot during Carson-Newman's win over Lees-McRae, and was a key contributor to the Eagles' defensive effort that resulted in a shutout of the Bobcats.

"He had a flawless weekend," said Moodie. "He's playing well and we're excited for him."

Pereira, a freshman defender and midfielder from Rio de Janeiro Brazil, made two shots against Lees-McRae and one against Shorter during the weekend of play in Greeneville.

"Rurik played well all weekend and has played well all four games," said Moodie. "He's always involved, he always stays busy and he contributes."

Carson-Newman will next play in its South Atlantic Conference opener on Saturday Sept. 15 against Newberry in Newberry, S.C. at 4 p.m.
