Eagles Host LMU In Soccer Doubleheader Wednesday

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Eagles soccer program will host a doubleheader against the LMU Railsplitters at McCown Field on Wednesday night at 5 p.m., and 7:30 p.m.

The women's team (2-4) lost their first match in South Atlantic Conference play on Saturday to Newberry 5-1, while the men's team (3-2) collected a 1-0 victory over Newberry.

"We look forward to hosting two very similar men's and women's teams for LMU," said Carson-Newman head coach Richard Moodie. "Both play very similar styles of soccer and it should be exciting matches to watch."

On Saturday, the men's team saw junior midfielder Sindre Welo (Trondheim, Norway) score the lone goal for the Eagles in the 35th minute mark of the first period, a goal that would prove the difference as goalkeeper Rumwald Le Guevel (Vannes, France) picked up his second straight shutout victory.

With back-to-back shutouts, Le Guevel has not allowed a goal in the past 201 minutes and six seconds of action on the pitch. Against Newberry Le Guevel collected two saves, as the Wolves made only seven shots throughout the match.

"There's not one team that wouldn't want to have him," said Moodie on Le Guevel. "Rumwald is a great keeper but a lot of credit has to go to the boys that stand there in front of him."

The C-N women's team has lost their last two matches, but are paced by junior forward Bianca Hall (Newcastle, England) who leads the team with three goals and six points on the young season.

LMU women's team is 3-1 this season, led by sophomore midfielder and preseason SAC selection Savannah Pitt's two goals and four points. The Railsplitters improved to 3-1 by beating Mars Hill 1-0 in overtime last Friday. The Railsplitters also feature preseason All-SAC selection forward Nicole McKinney, who has scored a goal and collected two points in four matches this season. LMU was picked to finish sixth in the SAC preseason coaches' poll.

The men's Railsplitters team is also 3-1, yet fell to Mars Hill 2-1 in their last match on Friday. Sophomore and preseason All-SAC selection Marlo Pinto leads LMU with four goals and nine points with 14 shots. Other preseason All-SAC selections for LMU include: senior midfielder Chris Nash, junior defender Callum Home, and senior forward Leonardo Germniani. LMU was picked to finish fourth in the SAC preseason coaches'poll.

The women's match against LMU begins at 5 p.m., while the men's match will kick off at 7:30 p.m. at McCown Field. An audio broadcast of both matches will be available on www.cneagles.com.
