Carson-Newman Soccer Hosts Anderson Saturday

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman men's and women's soccer programs will host the Anderson Trojans for a soccer doubleheader on Saturday afternoon and evening at McCown Field on the Carson-Newman campus.

The women's match between Carson-Newman and Anderson will begin at 4:30 p.m. while the men's match between the Eagles and Trojans will follow at 7 p.m.

"It's a must win for both teams," said Carson-Newman head coach Richard Moodie. "We'd like to think that McCown Field is a hard place to come and win, and it's proven that it is this season. Hopefully we can take care of business tomorrow but like I said, it's a must win for both teams."

The Carson-Newman women's team (2-10-2, 0-6-1 South Atlantic Conference) has earned double-overtime draws in two of its last three matches, yet the Eagles have not won a match since Sept. 8.

"They've been resilient and that's a tough thing to do when going through a tough season," said Moodie. "They keep fighting, they never give up, and they always look for the positives in the game. It's a proud moment to be their coach when you see the heartfelt effort they put into it. The chemistry that's been built this season is something we can take forward looking ahead to the future of this program."

The Anderson women's team (6-5-3, 3-2-2 South Atlantic Conference) is led by Krystal Goss, with her eight goals and 22 points this season. The Trojans are coming off a 4-0 victory over Columbia College last Wednesday in Columbia, S.C. Anderson was ranked sixth in the preseason SAC coach's poll, with five players earning preseason All-SAC honors.

The Carson-Newman men's team (6-4-2, 4-1-2 South Atlantic Conference) is coming off of a 1-1 double-overtime draw against Lenoir-Rhyne last Saturday. The Eagles have won two of their last three matches, and come into Saturday's action in third place in the SAC standings behind Mars Hill and Wingate.

The Anderson men's team (3-8-3, 3-3-1 South Atlantic Conference) is in sixth place in the SAC standings and has won two of its last three matches, with the last result a scoreless draw against Flagler on Monday. The Trojans have won the last two SAC Tournaments, and were picked for a third place finish in the preseason SAC coach's poll. Four players for Anderson earned preseason All-SAC honors and Lars Zimmerman leading the Trojans with five goals and 10 points in 2012.
