DAYTON, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman men's soccer team (7-5-2, 5-1-2 South Atlantic Conference) fell to the Bryan Lions (11-3-1) by a 2-1 score in the second overtime at the Bryan Soccer Stadium on Wednesday night.
The match was deadlocked at 1-1 until the second overtime, when Bryan's Alan Da Costa scored the game-winning goal to end the match in a 2-1 victory for Bryan.
The two teams played a scoreless first period, with Carson-Newman outshooting Bryan 4-3.
In the 46th minute mark, Bryan scored first as Daniel Branley headed in a shot off a Da Costa assist to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.
The lead was short-lived for the Lions, as Carson-Newman answered nearly two minutes later in the 48th minute mark. Carson-Newman's Sindre Welo (Trondheim, Norway) scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season off of an Evan Preston Kelly (Galway, Ireland) assist to even the match at a goal apiece.
The match remained tied through the end of the second period, as the Eagles outshot the Lions in that frame 8-6.
Carson-Newman would produce two shots to Bryan's one in the first overtime, but neither side scored a goal forcing a second overtime period.
Da Costa's game-winning goal came in the 103rd minute of the match, giving the Lions the victory.
Carson-Newman outshot Bryan 14-12 in the match, with Welo leading the way with seven shots, six of which were on goal.
Eagle goalkeeper Rumwald Le Guevel (Vannes, France) took the loss, as he allowed the two goals yet made four saves working the entire match between the posts for Carson-Newman.
Bryan goalkeeper Josh Oldroyd took the victory, allowing the one goal while making six saves.
This was the final road contest of the 2012 regular season for Carson-Newman, and the Eagles finished their time away from Mossy Creek 2-3-1.
