Eagles Travel to Milligan Tuesday

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Eagles (4-4-1, 2-1-1 South Atlantic Conference) men's soccer team will face the Milligan College Buffaloes (8-2, 5-0 Appalachian Athletic Conference) on Tuesday night at Anglin Field in Milligan College, Tenn., at 7 p.m.

The Eagles are coming off of a 3-2 loss to the 10th ranked Young Harris Mountain Lions on Saturday at McCown Field. Carson-Newman trailed 2-0 before rallying with a pair of goals in the final 20 minutes to even the score.

"We really just need to get that one win under their belt again so we can start building something," said Carson-Newman head coach Richard Moodie. "You saw Saturday the emotion of the comeback, and after we get that win it can give the boys at ease and the confidence they need."

Freshman midfielder Rurik Pereira (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and senior midfielder Matt Craine (Morristown, Tenn.) scored Carson-Newman's goals against Young Harris Saturday. After Craine's goal tied the match in the 86th minute mark, Young Harris scored a goal just over a minute later to win 3-2.

The Eagles have lost two of their last three matches, along with last Wednesday's 1-1 draw against Tusculum. Carson-Newman's last win was on Sept. 19 against Lincoln Memorial, capping a four-match winning streak for the Eagles.

Carson-Newman continues to be led in scoring by sophomore midfielder Joao Pedro Dowsley (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and midfielder Sindre Welo (Trondheim, Norway), who have both scored three goals. Dowsley's also has the most shots with 18, with Welo, Emmanuel Aboagye (Ghana), Taylor Jolley (Morristown, Tenn.), and Pereira also with double-digit shots in 2012.

Carson-Newman has seen consistent goalkeeper play from junior Rumwald Le Guevel (Vannes, France). This season he has allowed 11 goals while making 39 saves with a pair of shutouts.

Milligan, a member of the Appalachian Athletic Conference in NAIA, has won its last six matches, and most recently beat Union College (Ky.) 4-1 last Saturday at Anglin Field. The Buffaloes are led in scoring by Chris Ochieng, who has scored 10 goals and 21 total points in Milligan's 10 matches.

Milligan goalkeeper Dan Ball has started nine of the 10 matches for the Buffaloes this season, and has allowed 10 goals while making 36 saves. He has only allowed two goals in the last five matches.

Tuesday's match between Carson-Newman and Milligan will kick off at 7 p.m. at Anglin Field.
