Eagles Swimming Wraps Up Final Day Of Gamecock Invitational

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Carson-Newman swimming wraps up the third and final day of the Gamecock Invitational where the women's squad finished 9th and the men's squad 6th overall. 

The women's squad ends the week finishing in 9th place in the overall team rankings with a score of 80. After falling to last place following day one of the midseason meet, the Eagles climbed their way over Milligan University to claim the 9th spot in the ten team competition. Rounding out the top 3 spots were South Carolina with 1,551 points, followed by North Carolina with 1,425 points, and the University of Tampa placing third with a score of 524. 

Standout swims for the women's squad saw Emma Bowling earn a 34th place finish in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 52.22 followed close by Olivia Muir earning 37th in 52.45. Breanna Belcher swam the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:23.94 good enough for a 31st place finish. Freshman swimmer Megan Corcoran finished 20th in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:06.30 and not far behind was Maria Tirulli in a time of 2:06.60. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Olivia Muir, Emma Bowling, Kate Salsbury, and Megan Corcoran earned a 22nd place finish in a time of 3:30.64. 

Over on the men's side, the team finished in 6th place with a score of 292. Just ahead of the Eagles was Milligan University who scored 339 points. The top three teams were North Carolina with 1,493 points, University of Tampa with 1,040 points, and South Carolina finishing with a score of 1,035 points. 

The men's squad had a handful of notable performances following day three of the Gamecock Invitational. Jack Herbert earned a 13th place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle in a time of 16:38.49 followed by Thomas Watkins in 17:11.65. Senior swimmer Tyler Schehr placed 19th in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 1:52.43. In the 100-yard freestyle, Arthur Gluzman finished in a time of 44.06 which was good enough for 7th place and quickly followed by Daniel de Oliveira placing 12th in 44.42. Jacob Sell earned 20th in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 1:54.37. 

Carson-Newman finishes the Gamecock Invitational and gets a few weeks off before welcoming in the Wingate Bulldogs coming up on Friday, Dec. 13 - Saturday, Dec. 14 at the Maddox Student Activities Center (MSAC) in Jefferson City, Tenn. Starting times for both days are TBA.
