Megan Corcoran set the tone for the day winning gold in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:59.33. Corcoran's time earned a NCAA DII "B" cut time and solidified her spot as third in the nation.
"It was good to see her go below 2:00," said Young. "I say that because Megan has had a storied career in the sense of the amount of times that she has swam the 200 fly. Her event progression has kinda been all over the place and she has not been under 2:00 in two years so for her to do that has been amazing to watch. She also played a big role in the relay tonight. She holds the 200-yard Butterfly record now and is looking to add to that."
Senior swimmer Maria Tirulli secured herself a spot on the podium with her bronze medal performance in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:05.21. Tirulli's swim secured her a NCAA DII "B" cut time.
Will Humphreys and Asger Hartvig both won silver medals on day four. Humphreys finished second in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 48.69, and Hartvig in the 100-yard Breaststroke in 53.60. Hartvig's Performance was good enough for a NCAA DII "B" cut time and put him 11th in the nation.
"Will got a shout in the team meeting tonight," said Young. "Looking at where he was at this point last year and the way his sophomore year went. To say that he is a testament to the fact that hard work pays off is an understatement because he has literally paved the pathway for what it's like to come back from an injury. He's got another big race tomorrow in the 200-backstroke and he has a chance to finish out what has already been an incredible meet thus far."
"Asger Hartvig was another one that got a shoutout tonight from the standpoint that he went 53.60 and bettered his record," said Young. "That should get him invited to Nationals as well with just an incredible swim and a great way to finish out. He's a great example of what it looks like to progress over the course of four years."
The women's team ended the night behind a third place performance by Emma Bowling, Olivia Kerr-Muir, Martina Ivanova and Megan Corcoran in the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:34.2
In the last swim of the evening, swimmers Daniel de Olivira, Arthur Gluzman, Asger Hartvig and Tyler Schehr finished third in the 200-yard Freestyle relay in a time of 1:22.60
"Getting third in both relays was not exactly what we had planned," Young said. "But the people that were on those relay teams stepped up in a big way. The women's team fought tooth and nail all the way through and it was a fantastic race and a great way to cap off the night.
Carson-Newman returns to the Greensboro Aquatics Center for the final day of the South Atlantic Conference Championship on Saturday, Feb. 8 where Prelims begin at 10am and Finals slotted to start at 5pm.
"Tomorrow has the 400 free relay and I always get excited for that," said Young. "Crazy things happen during that race and the entire place just goes absolutely wild. It's a fantastic way to finish out the meet. Knowing that we have so many amazing seniors on our team getting ready to finish out their SAC Careers and what they've meant to this program. I'm excited to get to be at the end with them tomorrow and celebrate them."
