INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Carson-Newman senior swimmer Asger Hartvig (Hoersholm, Denmark) was named the NCAA's Elite 90 award winner for the 2025 NCAA Division II Men's Swimming and Diving Championships on Tuesday evening in Indianapolis, Ind.
The Elite 90 award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's championships.
Asger Hartvig will be the second Eagle to earn this honor in school history across all athletic programs. Hartvig currently holds a 4.000 GPA in Mathematics and was the winner of the South Atlantic Conference 2025 Elite 23 award. Since the award's creation in 2008, Carson-Newman's sole recipient of the Elite 90 was swimmer Nancy Claire Smith in 2015.
The 2024-25 season saw Hartvig put together a standout performance in the pool. The Denmark native has earned multiple invitations to the NCAA National Championships throughout his four-year stint at C-N. At the 2025 SAC Championships, Hartvig racked up multiple medals: two gold, two silver, and one bronze. He also set a new school record in the 100-yard Breaststroke with a time of 53.63.
For the NCAA Championships, Asger Hartvig earned individual invitations to compete in the 100 Breaststroke, 200 Breaststroke, and 200 IM events.
In his time in the Carson-Newman swimming program, Hartvig has been a two-time individual nationals qualifier, a four-year national team member, a two-year team captain, and a four-time record holder. Last season, Hartvig joined the All-American Men's Swimming and Diving team and received an All-American honorable mention in 2023.
The Elite 90 award, founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among peers.
The Elite 90 award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's championships. Eligible student-athletes are sophomores or above who have participated in their sport for at least two years with their school. They must be active members of the team, traveling and designated members of the squad at the championship. All ties are broken by the number of credits completed.
Hartvig and the other four Eagles take to the pool at the 2025 NCAA Swimming and Diving National Championships, starting the four-day meet on Tuesday, Mar. 11 - 15, at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind.
