JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman Swimming opens the 2024-25 season with the ninth annual Blue v. Orange World Championships beginning at 6:00 p.m. this Friday, Sep. 27 through Saturday, Sep. 28 at 11:00 a.m.

The Eagles look to get off to a fast start in the ninth annual Blue v. Orange World Championships. This meet has been built into a competitive and intense intrasquad competition that kicks off the Eagles 2024-25 swim season.. Swimmers take their place starting at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Sep. 27 with a new addition to the Blue v. Orange. The team will hold its first outdoor 3K event at a local pier on Douglas Lake.

"There is something more to give and it's a new way to build," said Young. "We wanted to add things to the Blue v. Orange that make sense and give us an opportunity to showcase some of the swimmer's abilities. We have a lot of distance swimmers that are seasoned in the open water and we're excited to add that event."

This is the ninth year of this intrasquad meet that gives the coaches and swimmers a chance to prepare for the upcoming slate of high level meets.

"It gives our swimmers an opportunity to swim events they don't normally swim," Young said. "They are playing a points game now and you're trying to win. It opens up the ability for our team to see what the meets are going to look like."

Last year's meet saw the Blue team win bragging rights in a 192-161 victory over the Orange team. Over the nine year stretch of the meet, the series record has widened (5-3) in favor of the blue team.

Despite a large senior class now gone from last season, Young looks forward to seeing how his team will perform this year.

"Ultimately, I'm excited to see the team accept the challenge," said Young. "The swimming will take care of itself. Our motto is 'Be passionate, be positive, be present,' and I think there's a lot of times when we forget those things. Getting them to understand that challenge is going to be one of the most gratifying things this season."

Carson-Newman Swimming kicks off the season at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Sep. 27 at a local pier on Douglas Lake.
