C-N Swim Honors Seniors Ahead Of Meet Against Mars Hill

VIDEO: Ben Young Interview

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman swim is prepped to honor the seniors prior to the race against Mars Hill and Emmanuel this Friday, Jan. 17 beginning at 6pm in the Maddox Student Activities Center.

Eagles Swim is set to honor the 2025 senior class this Friday night with all festivities beginning at 5:45pm.

"Senior night is a matter of giving one last opportunity to show the seniors just how much they have meant to this program," said head coach Ben Young. "I'm sure the energy will be amplified a little bit more, it will mean a bit more to the seniors getting to race their last here at Maddox Student Activities Center. It's one last opportunity for them to showcase what they mean to this program, what this program meant to them, and for them to put a cherry on top."

Carson-Newman will recognize eight seniors that will compete for the final time at Mossy Creek. Four seniors on the women's team will be honored tomorrow evening, including Breanna Belcher, Lily Parr, Kate Salsbury, and Maria Tirulli. Looking at the men's side, C-N will recognize seniors Christian Baliant, Asger Hartvig, Eli Poole, and Tyler Schehr

The Eagles will face the Lions of Mars Hill and recently added Emmauel this Friday night. C-N faced off against the Lions in late October where the Eagles secured a 245-161 victory. The women's squad outscores Mars Hill 133-68 while the men's side won with a score 112-93.

This  will be the second year in a row where the Eagles have faced Mars Hill and Emmauel for senior night.

"The atmosphere here is fantastic," said Young. "That is something that we constantly remind the team about. Swim meets can be boring if you make them boring and in all reality, these guys are in the pool every single day together and they know that everyone is in the same boat. A lot of the time it's about effort and the willingness to get up and race."

With much of the focus placed on securing the win this Friday, this is also a bittersweet moment for the team and coaches.

"Taking a look at this year's seniors and what they've meant to the program, it just shows the building blocks that they've utilized during their four years at C- N," Young said. "We look at what they have accomplished as a senior group and a majority of them have seen an exponential amount of growth throughout the years. There was an incredible amount of willingness to be challenged and to move forward. They've been willing to meet the standard, take it to another level and then ultimately leave the program better than when they came into it."

Carson-Newman swim takes on Mars Hill and Emmanuel this Friday, Jan. 17 at 6pm in the Maddox Student Activities Center. Senior Night festivities will begin prior to the start time at 5:45pm.
