INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Carson-Newman returns from the NCAA Swimming and Diving National Championships ranked 24th on the men's side and 28th on the women's side in Division II swimming and diving teams, as of Mar. 15.
"I'm just incredibly happy for Megan, Asger and Daniel and all of the qualifiers and the things they have accomplished this season," said head coach Ben Young. "It just shows the more you're willing to work and put in just creates a higher probability of coming out on the other side. Nobody is perfect but you know at the end of the day that you have done all you can. From a coaching perspective, I'm feeling a little unfulfilled because we had such a small group this year. We had to close this season off and start to think about how we can get better. We continue to recruit and look at how we as coaches can get better for the program. I'm excited to put this behind us and start fresh next week and start to piece together the best season that we possibly can."
The final day of the NCAA Swimming and Diving National Championships saw swimmers Daniel de Oliveira and Asger Hartvig compete in the preliminary rounds.
Daniel de Oliveira took to the pool for his second event of the week, the 100-yard Freestyle. In the prelims, Oliveira finished with a time of 43.74, which placed him 17th in the event. This left Oliveira just short of qualifying for the consolation finals, which concluded later in the afternoon with Grand Valley's Matthew Bosch winning gold in a time of 42.49.
Asger Hartvig competed in the 200-yard Breaststroke prelims, where he finished 23rd overall, leaving him outside of the finals. The gold medal in the event went to Indy's Brayden Cole with a final time of 1:55.62.
The bright spot of the week came on night four of the national championships, with freshman swimmer Megan Corcoran earning First Team All-American honors with her performance in the 200-yard Butterfly. In the event, Corcoran finished 8th overall with a finals time of 1:57.28. Corcoran was the only Eagles team member to earn All-American honors at nationals this year. She also earned an All-American honorable mention in the 400-yard IM, finishing 16th with a time of 4:26.41.
Daniel de Oliveira put together a solid week, with his best swim coming in the 100-yard Butterfly. Oliveira made the cut for the consolation finals, where he placed 13th overall, earning him All-American honorable mention status in that event.
Asger Hartvig started the week by winning the NCAA Division II Men's Elite 90 Swimming and Diving Award on Tuesday evening. Hartvig is the second Eagle to earn this honor in school history across all athletic programs. He currently holds a 4.000 GPA in Mathematics and was the winner of the South Atlantic Conference 2025 Elite 23 award. Since the award's creation in 2008, Carson-Newman's sole recipient of the Elite 90 was swimmer Nancy Claire Smith in 2015.
Hartvig saw success in the pool in Indianapolis with his performance in the 100-yard Breaststroke, where he placed 15th overall. This was good enough for Hartvig to earn All-American honorable mention status in the 100-breast in Division II.
The Eagles wrapped up their trip ranked 24th overall on the men's side with 26 points. The women's team finished the week ranked 28th overall with 12 points. All results from the NCAA Swimming and Diving National Championships can be found HERE.
