
C-N Swim Improves After Day Two at South Carolina
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Carson-Newman swimming ends day two of the Gamecock Invitational with the women’s squad moving up to ninth overall and the men’s team remaining sixth in the team rankings.
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Carson-Newman swimming ends day two of the Gamecock Invitational with the women's squad moving up to ninth overall and the men's team remaining sixth in the team rankings.
After finishing tenth in the team rankings following day one, the women's squad jumped Milligan University to secure the ninth spot. The Eagles are sitting at a total of 65 points with the next closest team being the University of North Florida at 129 points. After day two, South Carolina is in first place with 1,044 points, North Carolina in second with 952 points, and the University of Tampa rounding out the top three with 369 points.
The women's squad saw a handful of solid performances coming out the second day of competition. Megan Corcoran earned a top 25 place finish in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:24.23. Senior Breanna Belcher earned 14th in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:04.03.
On the men's side, the squad remains in sixth place with a total of 216 points placed behind Milligan University with 232 points following day two of the Gamecock Invitational. North Carolina sits atop the pack with 1,011 points, followed by South Carolina with 711 points and University of Tampa with 697 points.
Standout performances on the men's team saw Will Humphreys, Asger Hartvig, Daniel de Oliveira, and Arthur Gluzman earn an 8th place finish in the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:27.53. Junior swimmer Jakov Igrec secured an 18th place finish in the 400-yard IM in a time of 4:08.24 followed closely by Eli Poole coming in 21st with a time of 4:17.60. Daniel de Oliveira locked down an 8th place finish in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 47.38. Asger Hartvig placed top 15 in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 54.4.
The Eagles head back to the pool once more for the third day of the Gamecock Invitational on Friday, Nov. 22 at the Carolina Natatorium in Columbia, S.C. beginning at 10:00 a.m.
