JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman (3-11, 1-2 SAC) men's tennis team came up short in a 9-0 loss to fellow SAC member Coker (3-6, 3-1 SAC) Friday afternoon.
"Coker was just too good today," Carson-Newman head tennis coach Jean Love said. "We gave a good effort, but just could not match the talent of Coker."
The duo of Juan Perez (Ecuador) and Joao Pedro Oliveria (Brazil) battled hard against William Marrarfao and Tom Sizeland at no. 2 doubles, but were ultimately unsuccessful. The match resulted 8-5 in Coker's favor.
Oliveria took Marrafao into a third set at no. 3 singles before falling 2-6, 6-2, 6-2. At no. 6 singles, Daniel Douglas (Knoxville, Tenn.) took Zach Grooms through three sets but dropped the contest 6-2, 4-6, 10-7.
The Eagles continue conference play against Catawba Friday, March 21 at 3 p.m.
