SAC releases men’s tennis preseason poll

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The South Atlantic Conference unveiled its 2014 preseason men's tennis poll Thursday afternoon.

Carson-Newman is picked 10th with 35 points.

"We are looking forward to the season," Carson-Newman head tennis coach Jean Love said, "and certainly have our sights set higher than our preseason ranking."

Brevard came in at 11th with 22 points closely followed by Lenoir-Rhyne with 18.

Wingate locked down the no. 1 position with 107 points. Tusculum, Lincoln Memorial, Anderson and Coker all placed top five with 99, 93, 91 and 90 points respectively.

"During the last two seasons," Love said, "injuries have hampered both the women and men and did not allow us to put our best six players on the court consistently."

Newberry, Queens, Catawba and Mars Hill all placed in the middle of the pack with 71, 70, 54 and 42 points respectively.

"We are going into this season healthy," Love said, "and if we play well, we can achieve better results than last year."

Carson-Newman begins its season Feb. 8 at Tennessee Wesleyan at 1 p.m. The Eagles begin play at the Carson-Newman Tennis Complex on Feb. 12 versus Alabama Huntsville at 2 p.m.
